Emo ‘ya M’mbondo WA is currently seeking volunteers to express their interest to speak in public about M’mbondo culture in July 2011. The incumbent speakers must know the in-depth of M’mbondo Culture to take part to this initiative, which will discuss a variety of issues such as Socio-cultural aspect of M’mbondo community, the Politics and Economy of M’mbondo culture.
This will be an opportunity for the Australian community at large to understand M’mbondo, its values and culture as part of Australian heritage. This workshop will be run in a form of seminar or conference and will include many individual guests, NGOs and government officials from all over Australia. The main topics to be discussed include the following:
1. Social structure of M’mbondo Community
· History of M’mbondo migration
· Genealogy ( Ibúcwa) : Mioka, Lúshi na lobolo
· Marriage (Búkonda and Túleba)
· Wisdom and Proverbs (Malango and túlebe)
· Death (Luu or mi’weci)
· Birth (Ebyele)
· Illness(Malwaci) and medicine(bútee or mite)
· Dances (Maina such as Mlebo, Mkúnga,Ekúnda,Lúmamba,Akolomwang’ya)
· Social institutions (Bioo and/or bibúa) such as Botende, Púnga,Ilanda, Alúnga , Búte, Búkanga,
2. Economy of M’mbondo (Butunga): People , land and agriculture
3. The Politics of M’mbondo Society
· Early Kingdoms
· chieftainship or Bwami,
· Wars : from pre-colonial to current
· Massacres and genocides: from Makobola to Ekyomba
4. NGO mushrooming: Challenge and opportunities
5. Development indicators
· Poverty
· Illiteracy rate
· Unemployment
· Life expectancy
· Maternal death rate
· Pre-natal death rate
6. The challenges facing M’mbondo community in Australia and overseas
7. Conclusion
